RAMADAN SUPPORT PROGRAM

Helping Muslim inmates observe the holy month of fasting

Supporting Ramadan Observance in Correctional Facilities

Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims worldwide, but observing it while incarcerated presents unique challenges. MCSVA's Ramadan Support Program ensures that Muslim inmates can fulfill their religious obligations and experience the spiritual benefits of this holy month.

Ramadan Meal Coordination

We work closely with correctional facilities to:

Coordinate pre-dawn (suhoor) and sunset (iftar) meal schedules

Advocate for nutritionally appropriate meals that sustain inmates during fasting

Provide educational materials explaining Ramadan requirements to facility staff

Offer guidance on proper food handling and serving during Ramadan

Special Ramadan Programs

During the month of Ramadan, we increase our services to include:

Additional prayer services and taraweeh prayers where permitted

Special educational programs focusing on Ramadan's significance

Distribution of Ramadan-specific reading materials

Qur'an recitation sessions and memorization circles

Eid al-Fitr

Celebration

At the conclusion of Ramadan, we help organize:

Eid prayer services at facilities

Special Eid meals or treats where permitted

Eid greeting cards for inmates to connect with their families

Educational programs about the significance of Eid al-Fitr

Ramadan Calendar and Resources

Each year, we prepare and distribute:

Accurate Ramadan calendars with prayer and meal times

adjusted for Virginia locations

Educational materials about fasting rules and exemptions

Spiritual guidance for making the most of Ramadan while

incarcerated

Resources for new Muslims experiencing their first Ramadan

Impact of Our Ramadan Program

Our Ramadan support has significant effects

  1. Ensures proper religious accommodation for Muslim inmates.

  2. Creates a sense of community during a significant religious period.

  3. Provides spiritual structure during what can be a challenging time.

  4. Educates facility staff about Islamic religious requirements.

Helping Muslim Inmates Rebuild Their Lives After Incarceration

Re-entry into society after incarceration is a critical and often difficult transition. MCSVA is committed to supporting Muslim men and women as they reintegrate, helping reduce recidivism and promote successful, faith-centered lives.
